Franck Cazenave x Thomas Batigne

ART DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

The first series of 3D-printed silicone object-artworks, “the great feelings,” marks the beginning of a collaboration between artist Franck Cazenave, engineer Thomas Batigne, and the Lynxter studio: a new experimental space, acting as an interface between contemporary art, design, and cutting-edge technology.

The Project

Meditative Contemplation

Whether alone or combined, the vases invite the creation of true installations reminiscent of ikebana, bonsai, or Japanese gardens. The vases are no longer mere decorative objects but true invitations to meditative contemplation.

Unique Designed Pieces

From shape to hue, each piece is unique. Each color is created by hand using pigments. The virtuous collision between each shade and silicone gives the pieces incomparable luminosity and translucency.

Large Format

Following the success of the first miniature pieces, some of which went to private collections in France and abroad during their first exhibition at the Ducoté gallery in Biarritz in Spring 2024, the duo has now produced, after extensive technical research, new medium and large-format pieces, which are being showcased for the first time during the Paris Design Week in September 2024.

French Manufacturing

Exemplary from a socio-economic (proximity of knowledge and entrepreneurship) and environmental (zero or near-zero waste, unbreakable, low energy consumption) perspective, the entire process (raw materials, design, 3D printer, production site…) is certified as 100% French-made from A to Z.

3D Silicone Printing Technology

Lynxter handles the widest possible range of materials on a 3D printing system through a collection of unique technological modules. We shape these materials by altering their state and extruding them through a precise nozzle that moves within a multi-axis space. To change their physical state, we use mixing, heat, or humidity as needed. This process is called M.E.X. (Material Extrusion). With the S600D printer and then the S300X – LIQ21 | LIQ11, we affirm our expertise in 3D elastomer printing, specifically silicone.

About Lynxter Studio

We have created a space for avant-garde creators to access and experiment with our laboratory technologies: the Studio. As an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), we design and create numerous systems, explore new processes and materials. However, market conditions do not always allow these innovations to be accessible to the public. We believe these should not remain in a laboratory but instead be shared and become a source of creation, fueled by our scientists and engineers, for artists to explore.

About Thomas Batigne

Thomas Batigne is a French engineer, entrepreneur, and plastic artist. His works challenge both the present and future of form. Reversing the classical sculptor’s approach, the plastic engineer shapes, constructs, and inhabits the void with new forms through a surprising process that defies traditional classification. Creating his own raw materials (from earth mixtures or chemical solutions) as well as the additive manufacturing tools he uses – the S600D and S300X machines with his company Lynxter – Thomas Batigne multiplies the steps of creation, activating diverse spaces of reflection within his pieces, continually questioning the “human vs machine” relationship. His research, inspired by his entrepreneurial daily life where knowledge-sharing and equity are foundational elements of a healthy collective exploration, carries a resolutely contemporary purpose: a passionate and humane dive into immediate complexity.

About Franck Cazenave

Franck Cazenave is a Basque painter, plastic artist, author, and curator. His work explores the post-portrait of a “I lagged” humanity in constant transition in the face of technological, climatic, geopolitical shifts… in our post-Anthropocene, post-humanist, pre-transhumanist world. His work is fueled by an intense relationship with the living world, stemming from his Basque origins: ecopsychology, corporeality, matriarchal ideology, intersubjectivity, autonomy, and hybridization are the backdrop of his research. Each work fragment offers spaces to reevaluate the contemporary “I” and brings to life objects (artworks or experiences) that are sensual, balancing between analysis (or distortion) of reality and the emergence of poetic materiality. Deconstructing the idea of the isolated artist, Franck Cazenave questions otherness and reality through numerous collaborations. His works are present in over a hundred private collections (France, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Angola, Japan, Russia…).
