When to use silicone 3D Printing Supports?

Supports are employed in 3D printing when the 3D model being printed features critical angles, overhangs, or intricate geometries that may collapse during the deposition of the still-viscous silicone (thin walls, tall stems…).

Supports are temporary structures that provide a stable foundation for the critical parts of the object until curing takes place. Once the cross-linking process is complete, the supports can be removed, leaving the final part in silicone with clean and accurate details.

Water-Soluble Support

Developed by Lynxter, SUP-001 is a water-soluble support that offers several advantages:

Ease removal: SUP-001 rinses away with water, making it easy to remove from the printed object.

Safe: : By using a water-soluble support, Lynxter ensures a completely safe solution. There’s no risk to the user, as the formulation of SUP-001 is non-toxic to the skin and can be easily flushed into the domestic water system, eliminating any chemical hazard.

Improved surface finish: The SUP-001 support material can be removed without leaving residues or damaging the printed silicone piece. SUP-001 can be used without any special precautions; it doesn’t inhibit the silicone polyaddition reaction and does not impart color to the supported material.

Compatible with a Wide Range of Silicones

RTV2 silicone is a two-component liquid material before curing, so the support structure must ensure stability during the silicone printing process until the curing reaction occurs, allowing it to solidify. The SUP-001 is compatible with all types of silicone offered by Lynxter, ranging from industrial grade SIL-001 to medical grade (from 5 to 50 Shore A).

SUP-001 can resist to high temperature (bakeable up to 110°C) without being distorsion making it compatible with specific material which need elevated temperatures to crosslink.
